Report's English Resume

The Report presents the current qualitative status of Polish Information Technology (IT), indicates existing threats against its development and most of all shows strategic factors of Polish IT development.

The Report starts with the role IT plays in contemporary world and its importance for economic and social development. However, special emphasis is placed on the development of new information society which is establishing new social relations.

The Report describes IT consciousness of direct IT users as well as those who take strategic financial decisions about further development of Information Technology. This presentation is closely linked to the next three chapters on status, threats and opportunities for IT development in applications, computer education and training as well as in hardware and software production and deliveries. These three main groups are interconnected and have considerable impact on the current and future processes of economic development.

The part of the report which has been distinguished from the remaining body refers to the role the Stateplays in IT development. It is establishing proper economic, educational, financial and personnel policies as well as creating new legal regulations. The chapter is particularly recommended to legislative and administrative authorities of the State.

The last chapter indicates desirable directions of the international co-operation within the area of Information Technology development. It emphasises the need to link the Polish development strategy with the already existing information strategies in the world.

The report is summed up with Ten Recommendations being the basis for the development of detailed plans of Polish IT development both in global and local scale. In accordance to the accepted assumptions the Report presents current truths about the present and future (within the nearest 10 years) condition of IT or more specificaly Teleinformation Technology (TT). It is also supposed to indicate the directions of future activities.

The Report contains statements summarising particular situations or opinions while individual subjects are developed in supplementary notes.

The report sums up the discussions held during the Congress among its 500 participants. The Report also refers to the Report of Polish Information Technology Society (PTI) issued in 1991 and to Bangeman's Report prepared in the European Union. The final version of the Report was written by the team of 20 authors, who considered the remarks and opinions collected from 16 reviewers.

The Report was written free and is intended for IT environment as well as for the authorities of the Polish Republic.

The Report was officially presented on 26th April 1995 in Warsaw.
